Acropolis Lindos - A Place Worth Seeing in Rhodes, Greece
Acropolis of Lindos on Rhodes Island is a temple built in 4th century BC and dedicated to goddess Athena. It is a famous site on Rhodes Island and is visited by many tourists during Rhodes Holidays. To access the site, you can walk on foot or else avail Lindos Taxi (Donkeys).
History:
According to traditional views the religious group that worshiped goddess Athena Lindia was pre-Hellenic but this is not supported by some findings. It is said that the history of this sacred place date back to ninth century.

1. Theatre:

4. Boukopion:
The north-eastern part of Acropolis carries an altar called Boukopion. One can find about thirty eight writings on rocks that help recognizing the place.
5. The Archokrateion:
The surroundings of Acropolis carries a number of cemeteries. One of the important funerary monuments is the Archokrateion. You can also visit a rock slashed tomb situated in the hill west of Acropolis and Krana (the surrounding area of Kampana).
The exterior part of Archokrateion is divided into two stories. On the upper part there are floor pillars alternate with blind openings while on the ground floor there are half columns that support an architrave with triglyphs and metopes.
On the ground floor there are funerary religious structures having the name inscribed on the bases. The inner passage will take you to the place of burial rituals. There are about nineteen graves cut into the chamber walls. On your entrance to the hall, you will find pillars alternated with the panels of plaster.
The modern name of the place suggests that it was a church during the medieval times. Like other structures near Acropolis of Lindos this is also a must see place.
